Compliance builder

One form, two documents. Fill it in once per product — save it as work-in-progress any time, and when every required field is done, mark it as completed. Download your Technical File and Declaration of Conformity as PDFs whenever you need them: in preview mode your answers are saved in this browser (back them up from the documents dashboard), and the PDFs are generated fresh on your device — never stored by us.

This tool helps you write your own documentation and is educational guidance, not legal advice. Requirements vary by product category — this builder follows the structure commonly used for toys; adapt for electrical or other categories. Complete your testing before signing the Declaration: it's the last step, not the first.

1 Product description
Describe the product so someone who has never seen it understands exactly what it is, who it's for, and how it's used. Be specific — "a 3D printed articulated dragon toy, 180 mm long, for ages 3+" not "a toy". This identifies the product on both documents.
Must also appear on the product or packaging for traceability.
Under 36 months triggers stricter requirements.
Overall views, markings, scale and packaging. Photos are compressed on your device and embedded in the generated Technical File automatically.
2 Regulations & standards
Which GB regulations apply and which designated standards you used to demonstrate conformity. Used on both documents. Check current standard editions on gov.uk — editions change.
Most self-declared toys use the first route — it's only available if designated standards cover all the relevant hazards and you've applied them in full. Otherwise an Approved Body must be involved.
Tick each standard you've used — the plain-English note explains what it actually covers. Editions change: check the current designated edition on gov.uk and add it in the edition box (e.g. 2014+A1:2018).
3 Materials & components
List every material in the finished product — filament brand and exact product line matter, because test results only cover the specific material tested. Switching brand or colour line means updating this file and re-assessing compliance.
Add each material one at a time — type it in, or pull a spool straight from your stock tracker.
4 Manufacturing process
Document the process well enough that a future batch is made the same way. Slicer settings directly affect mechanical safety (layer adhesion, infill) — record them. Manufacturing location and storage are pre-filled from your settings; override here if this product differs.

Pre-filled from settings.
5 Quality assurance & control
How you make sure unit #200 is as safe as unit #1: inspections, what you check, what happens to rejects, how changes are controlled.
6 Labelling & traceability
The product (or packaging/leaflet where it's too small) must carry: the UKCA mark, your business name and address (from your settings), the model/batch reference, and any required warnings with correct wording.
7 Safety assessment & risk analysis
What could foreseeably go wrong — including foreseeable misuse (chewed, dropped, sat on) — and what you've done about each hazard. 3D-printing-specific: layer separation creating small parts or sharp edges, brittle failure, swallowable pieces from articulated designs.
8 Testing & evidence
What testing supports your claim of conformity: documented self-verification tests (where the standard allows) and any third-party laboratory reports. Keep originals with the printed file.
Photos of test setups and results (small-parts gauge, pull tests…). Compressed on your device and embedded in the Technical File.
9 Declaration & document control
Used for the Declaration of Conformity and the Technical File's version record. The signatory (from your settings) signs the printed Declaration. Leave the declaration date until testing is complete.
DoC number is derived from this (e.g. DoC-DRG-001) unless you set one below.
Only set this once testing is complete.

Generate documents

PDFs are built on your device from your saved answers — we never store the files themselves. Word versions are available if you prefer to fine-tune the layout.

⚙ Display options — choose what appears on the generated documents

Saved with this document — these change how the PDFs look, not what's recorded in your compliance data.

Incomplete fields appear in red on the generated document so gaps are visible at a glance. Print the final versions, attach photos and test reports, sign the Declaration, and keep everything for 10 years.
